Evelyn Louise Hatley Birtel, age 82, of Tafton died Thursday, July 29, 2010. Evelyn was born in Charlotte, NC.

She is survived by her seven children: Martha Foy and her husband, Peter, of Alburg, VT, Linda Birtel of Royersford, PA, Patricia Steimling Houtman and her husband, Leon, of Tafton, PA, Mark Birtel and his wife, Debbie, of Lake Ariel, PA, Eric Birtel of Royserford, PA, Amy Birtel Smith and her husband, Jason, of Middleburg, VA, and Shawn Birtel and his wife, Martha, of Hawley, PA; two sisters: Janice Martin and Gloria Slaven, both of Philadelphia, PA; seventeen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Carl L. Birtel, predeceased her in 2006. They were married for 61 years. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Teddy, Dewey, Marvin, and Larry, and a sister, Maryanne.

Evelyn was a homemaker whose life revolved around her family and she traveled extensively with Carl's military career in the Army.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 7th, at 10:00 am at St Paul's Lutheran Church, Hawley, PA.
