John R. Diehl, Jr, age 70, formerly of Hawley, PA and hometown of East Norwich, NY, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at his home in Honesdale, PA . Mr. Diehl was born July 30, 1944 in New York City and was the son of the late John Diehl, Sr. and Margaret A. (Reinert) Diehl. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol (Hawley) Diehl. He was past owner of East-Nor Luncheonette and Square Diehl Stationery, both of Long Island, NY. More recently he was employed as a retail specialist by Home Depot and previously worked at the News Eagle. He was past President of Sunny Point HOA, and a former member of East Norwich Fire Dept. He is survived by three sons John, III & his wife Eileen Diehl of North Salem, NY; Peter & his wife Michele Diehl of Fredericksburg, VA; Daniel Diehl of Hawley, PA; two daughters: Laura Diehl of Roslyn Heights, NY; Margaret Diehl & her partner, Barbara Field of Huntington, NY; two sisters: Mary Bozzello of Murrell's Inlet, SC, Kate Diehl Peterson of Hicksville, NY. Grandchildren, Peter, Rachel, Claire, Cecilia, Michael; several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was a friend of Bill W. for 16 years. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, January 24th from 1 to 4 PM at the Hotel Wayne, Honesdale, PA. A gathering will also be held on Sunday, January 25th from 1 to 4 PM at The Homestead, 107 South St., Oyster Bay, NY. Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne Memorial Hospice,601 Park St, Honesdale, PA 18431.
