Obituary of Robert A. Nied

Robert A. Nied, age 88, of Milford and formerly of Blooming Grove, PA and Union, NJ, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Regional Hospital Of Scranton, Hospice Unit in Scranton. Mr. Nied was born October 20, 1926 in Newark, NJ and was the son of the late Charles J. Nied and Mamie Minnie (Kline) Nied Stewart. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Ann (Scherer) Nied, and a brother, Charles Joseph Nied. He served in the Navy as a Seabee, during World War II and was on Okinawa during the American invasion. Mr. Nied was the owner of Nied's Homestead Resort and was a 17 year veteran of the Union NJ Police Department serving as a Lt and was the director of Union Twp. Junior Police Program. Robert was a life member of NJ PBA, past commander of the VFW Post 8612 in Milford, PA, a scout leader in both NJ and Lake Wallenpaupack, member of German/American Club in Port Jervis & Middleton, NY and a master carpenter. He was devoted to his family, adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most cherished times were celebrating special occasions with his family, especially celebrating Christmas in the Bavarian tradition. He is survived by his wife: Aimee (Schuster) Schanzenbacher Nied, two sons: Robert C. Nied & wife, Kathleen of Tafton, PA, William P. Nied & wife, Clare of Westfall Twp., PA, grandchildren, Robert & wife, Susan, Jonathan & wife, Jennifer & Matthew Nied & wife Caitlin Johnson; Mary Elizabeth & Joseph Nied; great grandchildren, Hannah, Kathryn, Samantha & Madison; two step daughters: Rita Schanzenbacher, Hannelore Schanzenbacher and a step son Peter Schanzenbacher ;step grandchildren, Jovan, Julika, Ryan & Eric. Calling hours will be Friday, March 27th from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 28th at 11 AM at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Matamoras, PA by Rev. James Walsh. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery .
