Leonard G. Burgess, age 76, of Hawley died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Formerly of Clifton, NJ, he had been a Hawley resident for six years. Born May 18, 1938, in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Ann (Saley) Burgess. After serving in the US Navy, he worked as a plastic mold designer for Athenia Plastics. While living in New Jersey, he served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling and the Jersey Shore. He is survived by two sons: Robert L. Burgess of Hawley and Kenneth Burgess of New Jersey; his former wife: Helene Burgess of Hawley; one sister: Diane Alvine of North Carolina; two brothers: Lloyd Burgess and Ronald Burgess, both of New Jersey; and one niece: Simone. He was also survived by other loving family and friends including Scott and Peggy and especially Joan and Walter. He was preceded in death by a brother Thomas and a nephew David. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 29, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Monday, March 30, at 11:00 at the funeral home with Pastor John May Sr. of Cole Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley.
