James Griffith Marshall, 83, of Hawley, Pa, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2015, at the Geisinger CMC Hospital VNA hospice, Scranton, Pa. with his loving family at his side. Jim was born in Bristol, Pa. on November 30, 1931. He was graduated from Bristol High School and Mansfield State Teachers College, Mansfield, Pa., majoring in history. He was married in 1953 to the former Fanny James of Hawley, whom he had met in college. Moving to Hawley in 1956, he taught in Honesdale for several years, but became interested in the real estate business which led to the formation of Marshall Associates Realtors. He was a successful broker in the Pocono area for over 50 years. Jim was an avid reader of anything historical, and enjoyed recording the genealogy of the Marshall family. He was proud of the fact that his grandfather had fought in the Civil War. In his earlier years he loved to hunt, both locally and in the west, especially when accompanied by his beloved English setter, "Pike." Always interested in eating and preparing good food, he was instrumental in forming a local Gourmet Club to which he and Fanny belonged for 43 years. Jim was predeceased by his parents James and Matilda Marshall, a sister, Betty Uhlig and a brother, William Marshall. He is survived by his son Chris Marshall and wife Candice of Hidden Lake Estates, Hawley and by his daughter Melissa Bartkow and husband Bill of Paupack, Pa. He leaves three granddaughters: Kiersten Semon and husband Jeff, Juliana Henneforth, and Natalie Bartkow; and a great granddaughter, Lylah Semon. He is also survived by a cousin: Barbara Osterman of Levittown, Pa.; a sister-in-law: Margaret Marshall of Penndel, Pa; nephews: William and Bryan; and niece: Beth Ann. He leaves a niece: Lynda Baker and husband, Donald of East Greenwich, RI; a grand nephew: Wade Baker and wife Emily; and their daughter: Reese of East Greenwich, RI. He is also survived by a nephew: Ross Douglass and wife Megan of Basalt, CO; and their daughter: Lynzhi. Jim is survived by his blended family including James and Melissa Flores, of Peachtree City, Ga., their daughter Ava and sons Jamie and Jakob; Brian and Jaime Long of Waymart, Pa, and their sons Alex, Archer and Ronnie and daughter Skylar; and Lenny and Christa Maiocco, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, Pa; and their son Lenny and daughter Alaina. Jim valued the time spent with his grandchildren and he was beloved by them all. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends at Teeter's East Chapel, 505 Church Street, Hawley, on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00PM.
