Sidney W. Lawrence, 90, of the Lake Wallenpaupack area, Pa., passed away on April 11, 2015 in Commonwealth Inpatient Hospice in Scranton. A Memorial Gathering will be held at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, PA on Saturday, April 18th from 1 to 3 PM. Sidney was born in Chicago, Ill. to Walter Lawrence and Margaret (Jenny) Wylie on October 2nd, 1924; he was the eldest of five. He went to high school at Matawan High School in New Jersey and graduated in 1942. He served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific. When he returned, he married Pauline Senise and went to college at Colorado School of Miness, now Colorado State University in Fort Collins on the GI Bill, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was called back to serve in the Korean War just as he completed his education. After returning from the Korean War, during which his first son was born, he was hired by the Westinghouse Corporation as a Mechanical Engineer, and lived in Ridley Township, Pa. He served Westinghouse in both engineering and managerial positions for many years, retiring at 63. He was involved with bowling and company sports leagues, and coordinated the annual Westinghouse picnic for several years. Sidney and his wife enjoyed traveling, with multiple trips to Hawaii and trips abroad, as well as many road trips to various parts of the continental United States. He was nicknamed "Map Man" for his love of exploring back roads without ever losing his way. He was very involved with his extended family, and purchased a home on Lake Wallenpaupack as a vacation home. Sidney was an avid sailor, spending many hours on his Lightning, "Frolic". He also enjoyed motor boating and waterskiing. He was a canny card player, spending many evenings playing Bridge, Hearts, and Oh, Hell with family and friends. He was a jazz enthusiast, and he and his wife Pauline were wonderful dancers. Later in life he became a genealogy buff, and was always an accomplished story teller/family historian. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pauline, and his four children: Dr. Gary Lawrence and spouse Benedetta Lawrence of Bear Creek, Nancy Lawrence from the Lake Wallenpaupack area, Steven Lawrence and spouse Sally Pont of Toledo, Ohio, and Jeff Lawrence, Esq. and spouse Kate Lawrence, Esq. from Carlisle, Pa. He has nine grandchildren: Jessica, Brad, Andrew, Sara, Amy, Fitz, Miles, Noah and Sydney. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Charlotte. Sidney is also survived by his sister, Peggie McQuarrie of Odenton, Md. He is preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings, Eleanor Welle of Red Bank, N.J., Albert Lawrence of Rumson, N.J., and Fred Lawrence of Parker, Co. <iframe id="tukios_player_512x330" allowfullscreen="true" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="330" scrolling="no" src="https://www.tributeslides.com/videos/embedded_video/6YXL2LD4DGGPDN3M" width="512"></iframe>
