Donald T. Meakem, age 82, of Lake Ariel, PA, died Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, PA. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, the former Joan E. Cryan. Born May 5, 1933, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Edward Joseph and Katherine (Jones) Meakem. He served in the Army National Guard from 1950 to 1954. He worked as a truck driver prior to his retirement in 1990. Formerly of Ringwood, NJ, he had been a Lake Ariel resident for 18 years. He was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Lake Ariel and also attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Lake Ariel, PA. He was also a former member of the Blue Knights Chapter XIII. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Edward Joseph Meakem of Pompton Lakes, NJ, Donald Thomas Meakem of Hewitt, NJ, Christopher Michael Meakem of Ringwood, NJ, and Daniel James Meakem of Wanaque, NJ; his brother: Gerard Giardina of Clearwater, FL; his sister: Bettyann Consiglio of Lake Ariel, PA; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Meakem of Jackson, NJ. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, October 9, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, St. Mary Church Rd., Lake Ariel, PA. Private cremation was held at the convenience of the family.
