Obituary of Theodore Whaley Cart

Theodore Whaley Cart, age 84, of Blooming Grove Hunting and Fishing Club, Blooming Grove, Pennsylvania and formerly of Harbourton, New Jersey, Florence, South Carolina and Warwick, Bermuda, died peacefully Monday, November 9, 2015, at home. Born April 25, 1931, in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Theodore Simons and Dorothy (Wilson) Cart. He graduated from the Lawrenceville School and earned his BA from Williams College. He then earned his MA and PhD in American History from UNC Chapel Hill, NC. He served with the US Naval Reserve on a destroyer escort on the Great Lakes during the Korean Conflict. He was a Professor of History at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, from 1971 to 1992, and had also worked for many years at his father's company, Atlantic Products, in Trenton, NJ. As a member of Blooming Grove Hunting and Fishing Club, he was considered the Club Historian. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years: Elizabeth (Zuill) Cart; one daughter: Vail Elizabeth Cart Tyler and her husband Roger B. Tyler of Essex, MA; one son: Benjamin W. Cart and his wife Sarah A. Cart of Key Largo, FL; one nephew: John C. W. Macauley of Wilton, CT; six grandchildren: James, William, Ted and Ben Cart, and Blake and Anna Tyler; and two Cart great-granddaughters; one cousin: James J. Wilson II; and brother-in-law: Cummings Zuill of Bermuda. A private family memorial service will be held at a Blooming Grove stream at Thanksgiving time.
