Obituary of Richard E. Higgins

Richard E. Higgins, age 75, of Lakeville died following an illness Monday, January 11, 2016 at home. He is survived by his wife Mary Catherine (Beemer) Higgins. They were married in 1967. Born May 29, 1940, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Edward and Anne (Feeney) Higgins. He served in the Navy from 1963 to 1965. Prior to his retirement, he was a mainframe computer operator at Ashland Chemical in Boonton, NJ. Formerly of Fords, NJ, he had been a Lakeville resident for 43 years. He was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church and the YMCA Silver Sneakers Program. Richard loved fishing, hot rods, and all types of cars. He and his wife Mary Catherine also enjoyed traveling and taking many cruises together. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son: Brian Higgins and his wife Amy of Morrisville, NC; two daughters: Kathleen Higgins and her fiance Larry Ferratti of Hawley and Lori Higgins and her partner Anthony Spinosa of Sea Girt, NJ; five grandchildren: Krystal and her husband Michael, Dustin, Sean and Angela Mae; two sisters: Noreen Kleid and her husband Stephen of Yardley, PA, and Carol Anne Kaup of Silverton, NJ; and his nieces and nephews: Michael, Geoffery, Gregory, Laura, Michael and Jason. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 17, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Memorial Mass will be Monday, January 18, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Inurnment in B.V.M. Queen of Peace Cemetery, Hawley, will be held in Spring 2016. The Higgins family would like to thank Darlene Yedinak, Lori Mulvey and Home Health Care Professionals for their invaluable help in caring for Richard.
