Phyllis K. Rankin, age 93, a resident of Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale died Saturday, May 7, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Walter Bailey Rankin, in 1981. Born August 16, 1922, in Charleston, WV, she was the daughter of the late George Russell and Virginia M. (Pohl) Knerr. She was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for various hospitals, retiring 40 years ago from Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT, although she remained active in nursing care well into her 80's. Formerly of Hawley and Wormleysburg, PA, and Fairfield, CT, Phyllis was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley. She was also a volunteer for WILF (PBS) in Harrisburg, PBS and with drug rehab programs. She was an avid pianist, and regularly shared her talents with the Hawley Senior Center and the residents of Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. She is survived by three sons: Dr. Michael B. Rankin of Hidden Valley Lake, CA, Stephen Scott Rankin of Tulsa, OK, Jeffrey K. Rankin of North Hampton, MA; one sister: Virginia Joan Meyers of Philadelphia, PA; one brother: G. Russell Knerr of Naples, FL; three granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles G. Knerr III, and her sister, Ruth Ann Beeken. There will be a Funeral Mass on Thursday, May 12, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Phyllis will be missed by all who knew her.
