Obituary of Barbara Ann Hunt Farrell

Barbara H. Farrell died peacefully at the Gino Merli Veteran Center in Scranton, Pa. on June 14, 2016 surrounded by family members. Barbara is predeceased by her husband Lt. Col. Francis P. Farrell in November of 2009. Barbara leaves behind six children: Lee Ann Farrell Kilareski of Cape May, NJ; Lance Hunt Farrell of Houston, TX; Colonel Michael Sean Farrell of McAlester, OK; Melissa Jean Farrell Paglieri of Ohio; Patricia Frances Farrell Shermot of Reading, Pa; and Barbara Ann Farrell Wallace-Hall of Hawley, Pa. Barbara has sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by her sister, Virginia H. Peterssen of Pittsford, NY. Born in Santurce, PR, to Ann Mullins Hunt and Howard Hunt, Barbara was a graduate of Forty Fort High School, and held a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. Barbara worked as a teacher in her earlier years and as time passed went on to spent endless hours volunteering for the Hawley Public Library, was involved in the AAUW (American Association of University Women), loved to play golf and visit friends and family. Barbara was an exceptional mother to her 6 children and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed traveling to places far and wide, gardening, reading, bird watching and above all, her family. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, June 30, at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut St., Hawley, PA 18428. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Inurnment will take place at a future date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in memorial Hawley Public Library, 103 Main Ave., Hawley, PA 18428 or Alzheimer's Association NEPA Regional, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
