Obituary of Paul J. Cooper

Paul J. Cooper, Sr., age 84, of White Mills died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen May Gregory, in 2001. They were married December 29, 1959. Born March 1, 1932, in Blooming Grove, he was the son of the late Jefferson Davis Cooper Jr. and Catherine (McConnell) Cooper. After high school, he served in the US Army from 1949 to 1950. He worked for George W. Brewster as a young man on his estate in Blooming Grove. He then worked for more than 30 years as a foreman for the contractors who cleared the PPL power lines including Shannon Tree Company, Jaflo, Inc., Tree Preservation, and Independent Tree Service before going into business for himself. He retired in 2011. Mr. Cooper was a member of St. John's and St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Churches in Honesdale. He is survived by two sons: Paul J. Cooper, Jr. of White Mills and Thomas J. Cooper and his wife Jennyne of Henderson, NV; one brother: Thomas M. Cooper of Lords Valley; and two sisters-in-law: Ethel Cooper of Tafton and Mildred Gregory of Matamoras. He was uncle to four generations of nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by five sisters: Agnes Ellison and her husband Frank, Marion Longhenry and her husband Elmer, Ann Stewart and her husband Harold, Helen Mushlitz and her husband Joseph and Philomena Cooper; and a brother, James Gordon Cooper. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 8, from 5 to 8 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Friday, September 9, at 10:00 AM at St Mary Magdalen RC Church, Church St, Honesdale, with Rev. William J. Langan officiating. Inurnment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale. Memorials may be made to Hawley Ambulance & Rescue Co, 219 River St, Hawley, PA 18428; or St. John's RC Church Youth Group, 150 Terrace St., Honesdale, PA 18431; or to the donor's choice
