Obituary of Florence A. Simmons

Florence A. Simmons, age 88, of Hawley passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, after a brief illness Florence was born February 21, 1929, in at Hawley and was the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Benziger) Sensen. A lifelong resident of Hawley, she worked as a bookkeeper and cook for the Wallenpaupack Area School District. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James W. Simmons; her son, James M. (Penny) Stroening of Blair, WI; her stepchildren: Jeanne (Joe) Kleca of Nazareth, PA, Jimmy (Dawn) Simmons of North Carolina, and Amy (Gene) Ciccone of Honesdale; and her grandchildren: Derek (Jennifer) Stroening of Martinez, CA, Laurel S. Stroening of Blair, WI, Tricia Driscoll, Audra Schwartz, Jamie Simmons, Mindy Skelton, Kyle Simmons, Amanda Quinn and Robert James (RJ) Ciccone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Elizabeth (Benziger) Sensen; her sister, Dorothy E. Sensen; her cousins, Theresa P. Sensen and Reta S. Levy; and her granddaughter, Nina Simmons. Florence was an exceptionally kind and gentle soul who was a tremendous wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved by all who knew her. There will be a Prayer Service at 11:00 AM ond Friday, December 8, 2017, at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley with Deacon John Giglio of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
