Obituary of Joseph James Hendry Jr.

Joseph James Hendry, Jr., age 88, of Bronx, NY, died Saturday, November 1, 2014. Joseph was born March 26, 1926, in Honesdale, PA, to the late Joseph James Hendry Sr. and the late Honora "Nora" Hendry (nee McNamara). Joe's great grandparents emigrated from Ireland in the late 1800's. Although his family lived in Hawley when he was born, the family moved shortly after to the Bronx where Joe was a lifelong resident. He did maintain his Hawley connections throughout his life. After serving in the Pacific theatre during World War II, Joe was employed by Citibank (formally First National City) for 41 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Hendry was a member of Saint Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church, Bronx, NY, and the VFW. He is survived by his cousin, Mary Jean McNamara of New York, and his great niece, JoAnn Doran. There will be a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 5, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
