Obituary of John Costiera Jr.

John Costiera, Jr., age 80, of Hemlock Farms, Lords Valley, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 10, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Jane (Rusincky) Costiera. Born December 16, 1944, in Astoria, NY, John was the son of the late John and Mary (Carretta) Costiera. He worked as a pressman in the Amalgamated Lithographers of America Union until his retirement in 2001. He was a devoted father and husband, who always put family first and was a friend to many people throughout his life. After his retirement he happily lived his best life going to the community gym every day, spending time with friends target shooting and going out to eat. He loved his pets deeply and referred to them as his furry grandchildren. His favorite activity was sitting in his spot on the couch watching television. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Danielle Cavanaugh and her husband Matthew of Hemlock Farms, Hawley; four grandchildren: Mackenzie, Samuel, Tyler and JadeErin; four stepchildren: Jamie, Lisa, Jim and Tom; eight stepgrandchildren: Jude, Paige, Sydney, Jordyn, Kristina, Thomas, Tommy-Lee, and Hannah; one stepgreatgrandchild; Lorenzo; and one brother: Richard Costiera of Sayville, NY. John was preceded in death by his sister, Diana (Costiera) Ragusa. His memorial service will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Teeters' East Chapel, 507 Church St, Hawley with Rev. Edward Casey of St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be held immediately prior from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Guests are welcome to wear the attire of their choosing. To celebrate John's life, we invite you to wear the color blue, his favorite color and the color of prostate cancer awareness. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
