Obituary of Joan Agnes Fetto
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan Agnes Fetto passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Spring Village Care Facility in Danbury, CT on Wednesday, February 26 at the age of 82. Joan is survived by her son Thomas Fetto and wife Robin of New Fairfield, CT; daughter Jeanine Diller and husband Erich of Sherman, CT and five grandchildren; Ryan, Daniel, Nathalie, Justin and Jake. Joan is also survived by her two sisters Brenda Jeselnik of Pound Ridge, NY and Priscilla Hrabovsky of Hawley, PA.
Born in Bushwick Brooklyn, NY on August 31, 1942, she was the eldest daughter of Frank Honigman and Agnes Osterman Honigman.
She grew up in Queens and graduated from Grover Cleveland H.S. in 1960. Joan met the love of her life Ralph Thomas Fetto at a neighborhood dance and they were married on April 18, 1964 in Queens, NY. Joan and Ralph enjoyed travelling, going to the beach, family get-togethers and the two of them spent many summers with her parents; Frank and Agnes Honigman; and their extended family at their country home in Hawley, PA.
Over the years, Joan and Ralph made their family homes in Yorktown Heights, NY; North Salem, NY; New Fairfield, CT and until 2022 in Ocean Village, Fort Pierce, FL. They were inseparable until Ralph's untimely passing that year. While raising her son and daughter, Joan worked as an Office Manager for an Optometrists office in Somers, NY from the late 1970's through the early 1990's.
In her spare time Joan loved to pursue her hobbies. She was a gifted pianist and organist and could often be heard playing one of her cherished classical pieces. Joan was also an accomplished artist and over the years painted many still life and landscapes which adorned the walls of theirs and their children's homes. She had a real flair and passion for interior decorating and was also an avid gardener. Her truly happy place was sitting quietly on her screened porch with Ralph watching the birds and wildlife share their garden with them.
Joan's children and grandchildren meant the world to her and they shared the gift of having a very close connection with each other until the very end. She loved throwing birthday parties while they were growing up and her extravagant holiday themed parties; with every detail meticulously planned; were not to be missed. Sharing joyous times with her family and friends brought out Joan's infectious smile and it warmed the hearts of all those who met and loved her.
Memorial services and burial for Joan and her husband Ralph will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer's Association at http://alz.org.
