Please share a memory of Kim to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kim Schooley, age 68, of Manassas, VA, died Friday, May 23, 2025, at home. Enthusiastic, compassionate, generous, funny, smart, story teller. Kim was born on November 14, 1956, in Suffern, New York, to Frank J and Marjorie White Schooley. She was a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School, Class of 1974, where she excelled in athletics, softball being her favorite sport. She went on to the University of Miami and graduated with a BS degree in Geology and Mineral Science in 1978. She went into the Air Force in the fall of 1978, as a second lieutenant. She served as Officer of Supply Operations, Petroleum Fuels, and Instructional Systems in the US, Japan, Egypt, and Bosnia. Kim received Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, as well as Outstanding Unit ribbon, Organizational Excellence, Air Force Overseas Long Tour and Longevity Service. Kim retired from the Air Force as a Lt Col in 2004. She joined TechniServe, Inc after retirement in 2004, as an owner/partner of the company, which provided software, web design and services to clients throughout the east coast until it was sold in 2023, upon which time she officially retired. Kim played sports throughout her career in the Air Force, and was an avid golfer, always ready to tee up until chronic back issues these last few years made it too hard to swing the club. She was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan going to as many games as she could when she was stationed close to St. Louis. She also loved to watch the NFL, where she had a soft spot for both the Eagles and the Steelers. Though she loved to travel, her great joy was cooking, especially cooking for her extended family. She could usually be found in the kitchen, and if not there, then in a grocery store getting ingredients to get back to the kitchen. The annual White Family Reunion was officially kicked off every year with Kim's “shrimpers and rice” on Friday nights. She loved these family reunions, where nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, adopted grandchildren, and friends gathered every August. She was an indefatigable debater and stayed current on national and international events. She loved to read history, and wherever she traveled, she found and explored the history there. She also loved to walk Civil War battlefields, and she would give tours herself of Gettysburg and Bull Run in Manassas, VA. She had a quick wit and a biting sense of humor. We will all miss her stories. She was predeceased by her parents above, and her brother Frank X Schooley, more known as Pancho. She is survived by her partner of 25 years, Nancy L Gardner, Manassas, VA, her sister Meg Janusewski (Chip), Paupack, her sister Robin Skibber (Bob), Blooming Grove, her nieces Lauren Janusewski (Luis Velez) Greentown, and Rose LoDolce, Brooklyn, NY. Her nephews Lee Janusewski (Kerri Waleck), Blooming Grove, Jack LoDolce (Brie Marchand), Hawley, Bobby Skibber, Eugene, OR, and Dan Skibber, Hawley. She is survived by her adopted children Amy Celznick, Avon, OH, and her children Morrigan Celznick, Charleston, SC, Brigit Celznick, Savannah, GA and Arianrhod Celznick, Avon, OH, Jill Rauch (Chris), Des Moines, IA, and their children Katie Jordan (Aaron), Des Moines, IA, Christa Rauch, Coralville, IA, and Zachary (Shay) Rauch, Coralville, IA, and seven great grandchildren, whom she loved as her own. She had many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, whom she loved and were like family to her.
