Sandra "Sandy" Wegst, age 80, a lifelong resident of Hawley, died Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale.
Born April 17, 1945, in Hawley, Sandy was the daughter of the late Leon G. and Edith (Polk) Wegst. She was a graduate of Hawley High School. She worked at various jobs over the years including as a bookkeeper for her nephew and as a housekeeper for Cove Haven Resort in Lakeville. Sandy has also been a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hawley.
Sandy dearly loved her family. When her nieces and nephews were younger, she enjoyed taking them on trips to Promised Land State Park where they spent many days exploring and having fun.
Sandy is survived by many nieces and nephews: Donna Noble, John Carachilo, Mark Carachilo, Jim Carachilo, Joseph Martorana, Carrie Martorana, Lester Roberts, Eric Roberts, Nancy Valencia, Jeffrey Wegst, and Georgia Lee Chambers; and a sister-in-law: Elizabeth (DoDo) Wegst Dotter.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Stella Roberts, JoAnn Carachilo and Emma Martorana; one brother: George Wegst; a niece: JoAnn Saviet; and two nephews: Leon Carachilo and Thomas Martorana.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 13, from 10 AM to 11 AM at First Baptist Church of Hawley, 315 Bishop Ave, Hawley, PA. The funeral will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Dan Baker officiating. Burial will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale.
