Gladys Elizabeth Fulkerson, age 98, of Honesdale, died Friday, December 5, 2025, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Fulkerson, in 2003.

Born December 16, 1926, in Edgware, England, Gladys was the daughter of the late Alfred C. and Florence E. (Shotter) Bagness.

She married Charles, who was serving in the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II, on April 15, 1945, in England. Gladys later emigrated to the United States aboard the USS Bridgeport, which was carrying 476 war brides, and she became an American citizen.

Prior to her retirement, Gladys was employed as a bookkeeper for W.T. Grant and was a driving force at Fulkerson Tree Farm, her family's business. Gladys formerly served as secretary and treasurer for VFW Post #531 Ladies Auxiliary, Honesdale. In her younger years, she was an avid golfer, recording a hole-in-one. She loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, watch Jeopardy and knit and was still busy knitting gifts for her friends at Ellen Memorial even in the last days before she passed away.

Gladys was always ready for an adventure, traveling across the U.S. to play golf with Charles, to Connecticut and Texas to visit her grandchildren and to New York City to see the Rockettes, the Statue of Liberty and to enjoy a performance of "Wicked" on Broadway.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law: Bonnie Fulkerson of Honesdale; two grandchildren: Vickie Fulkerson of Niantic, Connecticut, and Kim Speed and her husband Jon of Azle, Texas; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by both her children, Gary Fulkerson and Diane Rutledge, sister Doris Eagle and brother Eric Bagness.

A graveside service will be held at East Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale, in Spring 2026.
