Margaret Ann "Peggy" Durst, age 88, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Gerard William "Jerry" Durst, in 2019.
Born December 3, 1937, in Mineola, NY, Peggy was the daughter of the late Lester and Anna (Stolz) Grey. She and her husband Jerry lived in East Meadow, NY, where Peggy focused her time and energy raising their children, John and Patricia. She and Jerry moved to Woodloch Springs, Hawley, PA, in 2000 following Jerry's retirement from Grumman Aerospace.
A member of BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church while living in Woodloch Springs, Peggy loved to crochet, especial making blankets for babies and hats for newborns. After moving to Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, she enjoyed organizing and leading the activities with her fellow residents.
She is survived by one daughter: Patricia Petersen and her husband Michael of Glen Burnie, MD; one son: John Durst and his wife Christine of Massapequa, NY; one sister: Elizabeth Scalcione and her husband Robert of Allentown, NJ; one brother: William Grey and his wife Mary Anne of Franklin Square, NY; her sister-in-law: Mary Ann Drew of Central Islip, NY; and his grandchildren: Bryce, Ashleigh, Mikayla and Bryleigh Petersen, Gregory and Kylie Durst, and Finnian, Lucy and James Hart.
Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, PA.
A service will be scheduled in Spring 2026. Peggy and Jerry will be inurned side by side in the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, NY.
