William David "Billy D" Delling Obituary

William David Delling, age 73, of Hawley, died Monday, June 1, 2026.


Known to loved ones and close friends as Billy D, he was born October 10, 1952, in Honesdale and was the son of the late John William and Mary Jane (Austin) Delling.


Billy was known and loved for his reliability. Family and friends could set their watches by his arrival for regular visits. He made a point of checking in on those he cared about and never forgot to bring treats for the pets in his circle. Though he never married or had children, he was a steady and welcome presence in the lives of his extended family and friends. He will be remembered as an avid train enthusiast, known for his strong opinions, and always available for a visit, a conversation, or a helping hand.


He worked as a forklift operator at Tobyhanna Army Depot. After retiring in January 2013, he began working for Hawley Borough, where he assisted with maintenance, mowing at the park, and the borough recycling program.


Billy was a member of the Hawley Volunteer Fire Department. For 20 years, he organized and ran the train show at the firehouse. He also volunteered his time with many organizations throughout the Hawley community.


Billy was preceded in death by his brothers, John Delling and James Guy Schlegel.


Inurnment will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kimbles.
