Ingrid Gerkens Warshaw Obituary
Ingrid Warshaw, a woman of profound strength, adventure and dedication to others, has passed away. Born November 1, 1934, in Germany, Ingrid witnessed the hardships of a war-torn nation and antisemitism. In her early 20's, driven by courage and a desire to see the world, she left her homeland to build a new life.
Her journey led her to New York City, where she met the love of her life, Saul Warshaw. They were married in January of 1959 and began a life of shared adventure. Together, they built a family by adopting three sons: Bill, David, and Franklin, who passed away in 2014. Ingrid was a loving mother and grandmother to Veronica, Alex, Sadie, Nikki, Lexxi, Julieanna and Frankie.
Following the passing of her beloved Saul in January of 1984, Ingrid refused to let her adventurous spirit fade. She traveled extensively across all the continents, bravely traveling to Antarctica on several occasions. She spent her winters in Jerusalem, volunteering at the Hadassah Hospital and remained deeply dedicated to numerous charitable causes across both the United States and Israel. A passionate Zionist, Ingrid valued honesty and lived by the philosophy of actions over words.
Ingrid lived life to the absolute fullest, leaving an indelible mark on her family and the many lives she touched. She will be forever missed, but her legacy of action, love and adventure will live on.
The funeral will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 17, at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley with Rabbi Elliott A. Kleinman of Congregation Beth Israel of Honesdale officiating. Visitation will be held immediately prior from 11 AM to 1 PM. Private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley, PA.
