John Bernard Cleveland, age 81, of the Hideout, Lake Ariel died on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara Jean (Monson) Cleveland.

Born May 9th, 1945, in Syracuse, NY. John was the son of the late Johnnie Lee Cleveland and Lydia Amy (Kinslow) Cleveland. An Air Force veteran, he worked as a telecommunications system technician.

Formerly of Avon, NC, John and Barbara have been residents of The Hideout for 8 years and are members of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Hawley. While living in Avon he worked for the North Carolina DOT on the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. He was also an avid race car driver, winning many races and holding several track records.

He was a devoted father to his two sons, John Cleveland Jr. and his wife Laurie of Canandaigua, NY and Michael Cleveland of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also to his grandchildren, Emma, James, and Maxwell Cleveland. He is survived by his sister Lydia Cusack (George) of Parish, NY.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Cleveland.

Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Funeral services will be held July 25th, 2026, at 4pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, located at 401 Church Street, Hawley PA 18428.
