Jacqueline (Mitchell) Burress, of Hawley, Pennsylvania, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Our Jaki was a devoted Wife, Mother/Stepmother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She is survived by her husband: Ellis M. Burress; three sons and two stepdaughters: Michael (Joann) Palmietto of Wappingers Falls, NY, Anthony (Nicole) Palmietto of Lexington, SC, and Frankie (Janel) Palmietto of Wappingers Falls, NY, Kendy Gordineer of Peekskill, NY and Paula (Larry) Pezzullo of Wappingers Falls, NY. Jaki also leaves behind seven beautiful grandchildren: Elena, Abigail, Kara, Gabrielle, Tyler, AJ and Cassandra; and five adoring stepgrandchildren: Erik, Brooklyn, Alexis, Larry and Jaylyn.

Born September 3, 1953, Jaki grew up in Buchanan, NY, and was fondly known as one of the "Mitchell 11." She worked at DaRo's Corner Store in Buchanan for many years. Most of her regular customers there became her lifelong friends, and one even eventually became her husband.

She loved arts and crafts, dancing to a favorite song (especially "We Are Family" with her sisters), and sharing a good meal. She loved to shop, and if she really liked something, she bought it in every color.

Most of all, Jaki was known for her generous heart. She was always helping others in their time of need. She was always the first to lend a helping hand, the first to offer food, money, a place to live, anything in her power to ease the situation at hand. If you were lucky enough to get some of her tomato sauce, you knew all would be ok.

The proudest title Jaki wore was Grandma. Jaki loved to tell stories of her grandchildren and what they were up to. She would beam with pride when she spoke of them, especially the past few years when her illness was trying to get the best of her. Jaki's grandchildren were her shining light.

Our Jaki was small in size, but mighty in nature. If you knew Jaki, you knew this was to be the way it was with her, and her sense of humor will carry on in the jokes we share. Jaki was always quick with a joke when we least expected it. Her compassion is reflected in her sons' eyes, and her sense of wonder will continue on in her grandchildren. Jaki will aways be right there with us.

In Jaki's memory, and you know she'd like this, grab yourself a plain old Hershey Bar and make yourself a cup of hot tea. Her favorites. Enjoy them slowly. Replay the last time you chatted and reflect on how much joy Jaki brought to your world.

Jaki is predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Florence Mitchell, and a brother, Kenneth Mitchell.

Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 2 PM on Friday, Sept. 4 at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Deacon Paul J. Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale.
