Garry L. Shook, age 66, of Hawley died surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a brief but unexpected illness. He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Debra M. (Hill) Shook. Born November 5, 1949, in Honesdale, PA, he was the son of the late Harry Arthur and Agnes (Lennon) Shook. A graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School, Class of 1968, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from Arizona State University. He was a deputy warden with the PA Game Commission for many years and also worked for many years at Shooky's Distributors. A former resident of Sellersville, PA, he has also worked as quality control manager and night manager at Deep Run Packing in Dublin, PA. Prior to his retirement, he was freight manager at the Lake Region IGA. He and his wife also owned and operated their own gift shop, The Outpost, for several years. In his youth, Garry became one of the first Eagle Scouts in the area. A member of Buckhorn Hunting Club and Bone Ridge Hunting Club, he loved to hunt, fish, go 4-wheeling and boating or anything that had to do with the outdoors. He was famous for his turtle soup as well. He could often be found searching for Native American artifacts along the shoreline of Lake Wallenpaupack. A great fan of NASCAR and antique cars, he loved his Corvette. However, what he loved most of all was spending time with his grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved dog, Casey. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son: Thomas G. Shook and his partner Lydia Fournier of Thomaston, ME; five grandchildren: Alyson, Molly, Eliza, Hunter and Jameson; his brother and sister-in-law: Harold and Anita Shook of Hawley; his sister and brother-in-law: Arlene and Charles Kennedy of Perkasie, PA; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Bolton and Lorraine Bachmann. Calling hours will be Saturday, November 5, from 1 to 3 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 at the funeral home with Monsignor Joseph P. Kelly officiating. Private cremation was held at Sunlight Crematory of Wilkes Barre, Wilkes Barre.
