Obituary of Michael V. Bortree

Michael V. Bortree, age 60, of Greentown and formerly of Hawley, died unexpectedly Monday, November 3, 2014. Born December 28, 1953, in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Robert and Florence (Mougnos) Bortree. He was a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School. A well-known chef, he had worked for many years in New Jersey and more recently at several local restaurants. Due to his skill and creativity in the kitchen, he had developed quite a loyal following. Wherever he was cooking, his fans would go. In his free time, he loved to golf at Cricket Hill Golf Course. He is survived by one son: Cole Bortree of Greentown; his former wife: Jennifer Marley of Greentown; four siblings: Robert Bortree and his wife Ann of Morrisville,VT, Jerry Bortree and his wife Kathy of Greeley, twin sister Mary Kellerman and her husband Flip of Hawley, and Patty Williams and her husband Mark of Paupack; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Denise Bell, and a nephew, Mathew Bortree. A memorial luncheon will be held Saturday November 22nd at 1 PM at Cricket Hill Golf Club. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
