Obituary of George J. “Haasie” Haas

George J. Haas, age 93, of Hawley, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. Mr. Haas was born December 25, 1910, and was the son of the late George and the late Rosa (Matter) Haas. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Muller Haas in 1995. He served in the Navy during World War II . He was a guest at Bethany Village for the past 2-1/2 years. He was an Auto Dealer for the family business, G. Matter & Sons In Hawley. He was a graduate of Hawley High School. Mr. Haas was a member of the Antique Auto Club of America. Having sold Fords for family business, his interest in antique cars was a longtime hobby from Model T Fords to the 1980s. He was often seen driving a 1936 Ford Cabriolet in area parades & shows. He was a founding member of the Hawley Rotary Club from which he received the Paul Harris Award from the President of Rotary International. He was a school board member for over 20 years with Hawley & Wallenpaupack Schools and he continued as a member of WASD Authority. He is survived by a daughter & Son-in-law, Cathleen & Atty. Jack Spall of Hawley, PA. The funeral will be at the convenience of the family at TEETERS' Funeral Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, with Rev. Klaus G. W. Molzahn, retired Pastor of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley. Memorials may be made to Hawley Rotary Club, c/o Settlers Inn, 4 Main Ave., Hawley, PA 18428.
