Obituary of Elizabeth “Betty” Schmidt

Elizabeth (Betty) Schmidt, age 79, a resident of Bethany Village, Bethany, and formerly of Hawley, PA, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. Miss Schmidt was born July 3, 1925, in Lehighton, PA, and was the daughter of the late Edward B. and Estella (Koons) Schmidt. She retired as an educator for the Hawley & Wallenpaupack Area Schools. She was a graduate of Mansfield State College and obtained her Master's degree at The University of Scranton. She also attended Marywood College and Penn State University. Miss Schmidt was a past member of several area civic organizations and the Hawley United Methodist Church. She is survived by 2 nephews: Edward Schmidt II of Perkasie, PA, and Richard K. Schmidt of Northampton, PA; Grandniece & Grandnephews: Sarah Elizabeth, Shane Elias & Phillip Andrew Schmidt. She was predeceased by a brother Alvin Schmidt. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday April 10th at 2 PM. Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., pastor of Hawley United Metodist and Rev. William B. Healey, Pastor of Queen of Peace Church will officiate.
