Obituary of Fred Peter Mertens

Fred Peter Mertens, age 74, of Grandpas Woods, Tafton, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Sound Shore Medical Center, New Rochelle, NY. Born January 17, 1931, in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Richard Frederick and the late Maria Paula (Rosen) Mertens. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Jean Anne Roberts.
He was retired as a petro-chemical design engineer for C. E. Lummus Co., Bloomfield, NJ, in 1996. Mr. Mertens was a member of International Order of Odd Fellows in New York. He was a loving father and a passionate Mets fan.
In addition to wife, he is survived by one daughter: Laurie E. Mertens of Bayside, Queens, NY and two sons: Richard E. Mertens of Plainfield, IN, and Peter J. Mertens of Plainfield, IN; a granddaughter: Lori Hines; a grandson: Michael Mackenzie; and a great granddaughter: Taylor.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 25, 2005, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at TEETERS' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at 10:00 AM at TEETERS' East Chapel, with Rev. David Heckler, Pastor of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings On Hudson, NY, on Tuesday at 1:30 PM.
