Joseph Schulatta, age 83, of Paupackan Lake Estates, Hawley, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. Born in Wyoming, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and the late Mary (Tarpchak) Shalta. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Mary Ann Klimasiewfsky. During World War II, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the 33rd Photo Recon Squadron of the Army Air Force. He attended Aerospace School in California and Penn State Vocational Programs in Wilkes-Barre. He worked as a brick layer and mason, but was also a skilled woodworker. He also excelled at being a successful husband and father. Formerly a resident of Levittown, NY, and Wyoming, PA, he had been a member of St. Bernards Roman Catholic Church in Long Island, NY. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Joy Schulatta of Lakeville, PA; a son: Paul Schulatta of Laconia, NH; a brother: Edward Shalata of Berwick, PA; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a private funeral service held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Swoyersville, on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
