Obituary of Samuel H. Vanderbeek

Samuel H. Vanderbeek, age 80, of Hawley, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Garrett H. and the late Agnes (Holden) Vanderbeek.
He retired after 20 years of service in the Navy during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He spent 20 years working as an appliance repairman for Sears, then operated his own appliance repair business for 15 years. Sam raised Hereford cattle and vegetables on the family farm and enjoyed fishing in the pond he built there. He could fix anything that needed repairing and had a great fondness for his dog, Wolf.
He is survived by a brother: Harry J. Vanderbeek of Columbus, IN; three nieces: Agnes Bassett of Bloomfield, NJ, Anita VanWinkle of Linton, IN, and Karen Vanderbeek of Columbus, IN; and six great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters: Kathryn Kimball and Anna Dowd, and his long time friend Elizabeth Kowalczyk.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00AM at TEETERS' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.
