Obituary of Donald J. Kranich

Donald J. Kranich, age 79, of Hilton Head Island, SC, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie Avery Kranich. Mr. Kranich was born July 1, 1926 at Baldwin, NY the son of the late Walter and Helen Kranich. Don served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the LST 700 in the South Pacific. Don was an independent service station owner on Long Island prior to moving to Hawley as co-owner of Woodloch Pines Resort. He served as President of the Wallenpaupack Area School Board for over 18 years. He had been a member, trustee and long time treasurer of the Hawley United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Hawley Masonic Lodge and a member and served on the Board of Directors of the Country Club of Scranton. In 1994, he retired to Hilton Head Island were he was a member of St. Andrew-by-the-Sea United Methodist Church. He also served as a starter at Moss Creek Country Club for 10 years. He is survived by his wife: Marjorie (Avery) Kranich, a daughter and son-in-law: Serena and Jay Mutschler of Niwot, CO and a son and daughter-in-law: Russell and Donna Kranich of Orlando, FL., eight grandchildren, Brooke, Megan, Patrick, Oliva, Brianna, Jake, Abigail and Jessica. Also surviving are two brothers, Walter and Franklin. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 4th at St. Andrew-by-the-Sea United Methodist Church, Hilton Head Island.
