Obituary of Rudolph De Roode

Rudolph deRoode, 92, a resident of United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village campus in Pittston PA, formerly a resident of Summit, NJ, and a long time summer resident of Simons Point, PA, passed away with family at his side on Monday (March 13, 2006).
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 21, 1913. He was the son of the late Louis Kuinders deRoode and Stella Humphrey deRoode.
He is survived by his three loving children, Jacci West and her husband Ric of Tafton, PA, Wendy deRoode Whitmore and her husband Bob of Colchester, CT and Eugene deRoode and his wife Lisa of New Hartford, CT, along with his seven grandchildren: Brendan, Evan and Leland West, Erin and Luke Whitmore and Shaylah and Victoria deRoode.
Rudy was a generous loving father and will be remembered for his integrity and genuine compassion for people. He will be dearly missed. Rudy graduated from Summit High School in 1927. He then worked for the Summit Bank and Trust until he entered college in 1933. He graduated from the Univ. of Kentucky in 1938. He was called to active duty during WWII and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific from 1941-1946. Rudy was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery.
Following his discharge from the army he began his 50-year career in the Real Estate and Insurance business in Summit, NJ, where he was co-owner of The Richland-Knowles Agency.
Rudy was a member of the Diamond Hill United Methodist Church in Berkeley Heights, NJ. He also attended the Paupack United Methodist Church in Paupack, PA. He was dedicated to community service and served on many organizations and boards in the Summit area. He was a member of the Summit Lions club for more than 52 years; he served many terms as President and in 1987 was awarded the distinguished Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He will be remembered for his many years as Chair of the Sight and Welfare Committee.
A memorial service will be celebrated on April 8th at 2PM the Paupack United Methodist Church in Paupack,PA.
