Donald P Strauss, age 80, of Boulder Point, Lakeville, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Paul H. and Ada (Hefflefinger) Strauss. He is survived by his wife of 5 years, the former Janet Neubauer Murphy . He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley, in 1993.
A graduate of Reading High School and Temple University, he served in the Navy during World War II. He was retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot as an engineering electronics technician. He had also been employed as a design engineer by RCA in New Jersey. Formerly of Pennsauken, NJ, he had been a Lakeville resident for 40 years.
Mr. Strauss was a Life Member of the Sampson World War II Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Turbotville and Gravel Pit Hunting Clubs and the NRA, former Scout Master of Troop 401 in Hawley, former President of Boulder Point Assoc having served 17 years, President of Rocky Pine Assoc., a member of the 55 Plus Club, the Pocono Recreational Ministry and the Temple University Alumni Assoc.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Wendy K. Gerhart of Lansdale, PA, and Cindy Vanderbeck of Yardley, PA; three sons: Craig D. Strauss of Weston, CT, Edwin F. Strauss of Philadelphia, PA, and Paul D. Strauss of Reading, PA; a step daughter: Lora Efinger of Hawley, PA; three step sons: Thomas Murphy of Shirley, NY, William Murphy and Kenneth Murphy, both of Central Islip, NY; 9 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 to 11 am at Hawley United Methodist Church, 315 Church St., Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 at Hawley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., Pastor, and Rev. David Heckler, Pastor of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Paupack.
