Santina M. "Sandy" McLaughlin, age 87, of Barker St. Apartments, Hawley, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bud" McLaughlin, in 1991. Born January 3, 1926, in Trenton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Mary (Zoda) Lupo.
In her nineteen-year career, she was secretary to six principals at Wallenpaupack Area High School. A dedicated volunteer in her retirement days, Sandy gave many hours of her time to the Hawley Library, the Hawley Senior Center, and delivering homebound meals. Throughout her life, she had many interests including traveling, cooking, acting, puzzles, and bowling, and she enjoyed her daily walks through town.
Sandy was a loving mother and grandmother who valued her family and friends and, most of all, cherished her three grandchildren with whom she spent countless hours singing, writing stories and poems, and playing outdoors as they were growing up.
She was particularly famous not only for her lasagna dinners, but for her photo-ready smile and her kind and loving soul. She will be fondly remembered and loved forever.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Keene of Hawley and Maureen Bunting and her fiance Todd Vinton of Waymart; one son: Bob and his wife Janine of Blooming Grove; two sisters: Virginia Aiello and Fanny Aiello both of California; one brother: Vincent Lupo and his wife Helene also of California; three grandchildren: Bethany, William and Kyle; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, July 20, from 10 AM to 12 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
