James E. McHale, age 90, of Hawley died Sunday, September 17, at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. Born in Hawley, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Julia (McAndrew) McHale. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Helene J. Mougnos. A graduate of Hawley High School, he served as an Army First Sergeant in the 88th Infantry in Italy during World War II. A lifelong Hawley resident, he had retired from PennDOT as assistant superintendent for Wayne Co. In addition, he and his wife operated Helenes Bake Shop for many years. Active for many years in the Wayne County Republican Party, he also served as the Palmyra-Wayne Tax Collector for 36 years. He was a member of VFW Robert Drake Memorial Post 5823 and the American Legion, Wilson-Kelch Post 311, both of Hawley. A member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, he had served as an usher for over 50 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Mary Pat Bosner and her husband, John, of Alaska and Florida and Catherine Dougherty and her husband, James, of Hawley; a son: James E., Jr., and his wife, Janie, of Anchorage, AK; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Rose and Jane Delaney, and two brother, Joseph and Charles. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 2 to 5 PM only at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral mass will be Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 319 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley. Memorials may be made to Hawley Ambulance & Rescue Co, 219 River St, Hawley, PA 18428
