William J. Kenney, age 90, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the former Isabell H. Madden in 2003. Born March 23, 1923, at Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late John and Elsie (Seis) Kenney. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and Korea and served on the USS Richmond. He was a survivor of the Battle of Komandorski Islands on March 26, 1943. Prior to his retirement, he was a manager for Bell Telephone. Mr. Kenney was a past Commodore of Great Kills Yacht Club in Long Island and a member of the International Order of the Blue Gavel. He was also active in reunions of the USS Richmond. He loved sailing and swam a mile every day in his younger years. He also loved to travel on cruise ships. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Lamm. He is survived by his grandson: James Colasurdo of West Babylon, NY; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Rosemary and Michael Schuster of Hawley; and his great grandson: Wayne Schuster of Hawley. Calling hours will be Saturday, July 27, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Deacon Matthew Lorent officiating. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, PA.
