My deepest sympathy to the family of Edith Wells. Edith brightened many of my Sundays for the past 13 years with her warm and loving smile and how beautiful she was dressed in blue. What a wonderful lady I am truely blessed to have known and shared time on this earth in her presence.

REFUGE

Dust wisps about
disturbed by
a lift of stale air
in this abandoned cellar
cobwebs hang
like tangled stockings
from beams still holding
endless memories
up stairs
in the kitchen
a pot belly stove stands
coaxing dough to slow rise
while my cousins and I
finger painted at the table
through the hall
past the heating stove
at the far end
of the living room
grandma crocheted doilies-
never any two alike
coming around the stove
I see the door
open
its ragged narrow steps
reaching up
phantom whispers . . .
photo thoughts . . .
cold nights
beneath down quilts
asking Grandma “let me
wind-up ole big Ben”
She’d say “now
don’t you wind it too tight . . .”
here I was safe
tucked in next to Grandma
who’d rub my feet
tickle my back
ease the world away
in my mind
this home
my happy place
still stands
creaking its resilience
awaiting its demise
to strangers
it was only old wood
and broken windows
it was worn tile
and planks
gouged from decades
of scuffing around
One last look- last visit
and I turn
to
walk away

George posted a condolence
To My Mom:
I wanted to say Happy Birthday Mom
In a special loving way
But after 97 wonderful years
What can one possibly say?
Wife, matriarch, grandma and friend
Mom to the "amazing seven"
Your home and hearth was always in PA
But now it is in Heaven
Your life has been filled with many events
Halley's Comet in '86 and way back in'10
And 3 years old when the Titanic sunk
we are glad you weren't sea crusing then.
The years went by- some fast- some slow
Of course with you some smiles and tears
But you certainly did everything well
Because Lord blessed us with YOU for all these years.
I love you and will miss you Mom.
You Son, George
