Obituary of Eugene John Mehrtens

Eugene John Mehrtens, age 78, of White Mills died Friday, January 26, 2007 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. Mr. Mehrtens was born March 27, 1928 in Hackensack, NJ and was the son of the late John L. and Elsie(Schneider) Mehrtens. He was predeceased by his wife, Christine Walling Mehrtens. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a retired auto mechanic. Mr. Mehrtens was actively involved at St. Pauls Lutheran Church as the property committee chair; member of the church council and stewardship committee. He was also a youth leader, office assistant and member of the service & fellowship team. He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Honesdale Senior Citizens. He is survived by four daughters: Karen Mehrtens of Olyphant, PA, Lisa O'Day of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jennifer Mehrtens of White Mills, PA, Amanda Mehrtens of White Mills, PA and three sons: William Mehrtens of Carbondale, IL, Steven Mehrtens, Eric Mehrtens of White Mills, PA and numerous grand and great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother: John Mehrtens of Whiting, NJ and several nieces & nephews. Calling hours will be Monday Jan. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters East Chapel. The funeral will be Tuesday Jan. 30, at 10:30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 405 Church St., Hawley with Rev. David Heckler, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.
