Obituary of Ellis R. Myers

Ellis R. Myers, beloved husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Mar. 11.
Mr. Myers graduated from Forty Fort High School in 1960, Wilkes College in 1965, and The University of North Carolina School of Social Work with a Masters Degree in 1967.
He was a Pennsylvania Licensed Social Worker; a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers; a Certified Behavioral Health Care Executive; past President of the Wilkes-Barre Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers; founding member of the Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Providers Association; a charter member of the Community Behavioral Health Care Network of Pennsylvania; a board member of the Pennsylvania Community Providers Association; a former Chairman of the Fairview Township Recreation Board; and Chairman of Trustees of the Glen Summit Chapel.
Mr. Myers was the Assistant Director of Social Services at Retreat State Hospital, and Administrative Director of the Nanticoke Mental Health Clinic. He was instrumental in the creation of the Hazleton-Nanticoke Mental Health/Mental Retardation Center, which later became Northeast Counseling Services, where he served as Deputy Director for Administrative Services and Executive Director until his retirement in 2004.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Clare; his mother Ruth; sister Jane Adams; son Andrew and his wife Heidi; son David and his wife Carla; and grandchildren Marley, Mallory, and Mason.
Services will be held Thursday, March 15 at the Glen Summit Chapel, Lake Road, Glen Summit, Mountain Top. The family will receive friends from 11-12 at the Chapel, with a Memorial Service beginning at 12 Noon, Reverend Robert Herrala officiating.
