Arthur H. Saaf, age 85, of Rowland, died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at home. Born December 4, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Herman and Anna (Smutney) Saaf. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, the former Thelma S. Solversen, in December 2005. A graduate of the Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn, he was a cartoonist and commercial artist for Benton and Bowles Advertising Agency. His artwork was featured in Highlights for Children, PA Game News and DC Comics. Formerly of Brooklyn and New York City, he had been a Rowland resident for 56 years. He was a founding member of Central Vol. Fire Dept., a Sunday School teacher at St. Luke's & Bethel Lutheran Churches, and a member of Hillview Rod & Gun Club. He especially loved working with his flower gardens and tomato plants. He is survived by a daughter & son-in-law: Marla & Rich Krochta of Rowland; two sons: Jeffrey A. Saaf of Rowland, and Steve Saaf of Montario, CA; two sisters: Joan Sears of Belton, SC, and Ann McCormick of New Hyde Park, NY; and four grandchildren: Tia, Mason, Benjamin and Stephen. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Apr. 25, from 2 to 4 PM only at Teeters East Chapel, 505 Church St.,Hawley. The funeral will be Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at Bethel Lutheran Church, Church Road, Rowland, with Rev. Norman R. Beighley, Pastor, officiating. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel.
