Laurence J. Assip, age 82, of Woodloch Springs, Hawley, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at home. Born March 3, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late William and Florence (Curry) Assip. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former ClaireO'Loughlin. During World War II he served in the Navy having served aboard the USS Bell, a tin can, for three years active duty. He was a retired chauffeur and lifelong resident of Brooklyn until he moved to Woodloch Springs 15 years ago. A member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, he was an avid golfer at Cricket Hill Golf Course and bowler at Wallenpaupack Lanes. He was the devoted father of daughter: Dianne Assip of Shrub Oak, NY; a daughter & son-in-law: Tricia & Billy Balmes of Staten Island, NY; a son & daughter-in-law: Laurence & Pam Assip of Queens, NY; beloved Poppy to grandchildren: Shandra, L.J., Bridget, Christopher, Kaitlyn and Liam; and great grandson: Dominick; and dear brother to Florence Miller of Brooklyn, NY. He was preceded in death by a sister, Arlyne Paulin, and two brothers, Harry and Jerry. Calling hours will be Monday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 5 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, and Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Joseph Duffy Funeral Home, 255 Ninth St., Brooklyn, NY. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:15 AM at St. Saviour Roman Catholic Church, 611 8th Ave., Brooklyn. Cremation will be held at Greenwood Crematory, Brooklyn. Burial will take place at a date to be determined at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn. Memorials may be made to Wayne Memorial Hospice, c/o Wayne Memorial Hospital, 601 Park St., Honesdale, PA 18431
