Bruno W. Kasler, age 75, of Brooklyn, NY, and Woodloch Springs, Hawley, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. Mr. Kasler was born June 10, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, and was the son of the late Bruno W. and Nettie (Gross) Kasler, Sr.
Mr. Kasler was a New York State Funeral Director for over 50 years. He was the former owner of Fred Herbst Sons, Inc., Funeral Home and Manager Emeritus of the former E.C. Waldeck Home for Funerals both located in Bay Ridge. He was a graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School, Brooklyn, and American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City. He retired in 1994 and spent much of his time, with his wife, at Woodloch Springs. He was a Woodloch Springs Pioneer and member of the Sunshine Club.
He served in the Air Force during Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant. He was Board Member Emeritus of the Metropolitan Funeral Directors Association of New York City, member of NY State and National FDA and National Selected Morticians. He also served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 3rd Kings Masonic District, Master of Bay Ridge Lodge and a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He was Past Atlantic District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, Honorary Trustee of the Lutheran Medical Center and member of the Board of Directors of the former Bay Ridge Savings and Loan Association. He was also a Past President and Honorary member of the Bay Ridge Lions Club, an Honorary member of the 12:30 Club and Mens Club of Brooklyn.
Mr. Kasler was also a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd, St Pauls Lutheran Church, Hawley and Bethel Lutheran Church, Rowland, PA.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanna Katherine Marie Viedt, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. They were married in 1952. Also surviving are three sons & daughters-in-law: Drew & Diane Kasler, Brian & Jude Kasler, and Christopher & Theresa Kasler; a daughter: Janice Kasler and her companion Pat; and seven grandchildren: Drew, Jonathan, Matthew, Christopher, Justine, Danielle and Brittney.
The funeral will be Monday, December 3, at Evangelical Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd, Brooklyn. Burial will be in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, on Monday at 1:30 pm with Full Military Honors.
