Obituary of Mildred Furgele

Mildred "Lucky" Furgele, age 75, of Sandy Shore, Lakeville, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at home. Mrs. Furgele was born April 6, 1932, in Exeter, PA, and was the daughter of the late Ernest C. and Regina (Bean) Pliscott. She was married to Frank J. Furgele for 54 years. Lucky and Frank would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in July.
She was a devoted Catholic and active in BVM Queen of Peace Parish as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion; she initiated and organized the post-funeral luncheon program that continues to the present. She served as a member of the Baptismal Seminar team, Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Catholic Outreach Program.
A graduate of Exeter High School she graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College with a BS in Elementary Education and Speech and completed graduate studies at West Chester State College. She began teaching in Centennial Schools in Bucks County. Later she organized and supervised a nursery and pre-school in Richboro. Upon moving to Sandy Shore community in Lakeville, Mrs. Furgele substituted and served part-time as a speech therapist for Intermediate Unit 19, serving local schools in Wayne County.
She also organized and directed the annual Sandy Shore Golf Tournament for 15 years and was co-chair of the Welcoming Committee. A long time member of the Locust Grove Association Board of Directors and a former member of the Hawley Woman's Club, Lucky conducted many fund raising events for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Lucky was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her life centered around her family and she was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. Lucky will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She will be remembered for her heartfelt smile, great sense of humor and determination. Lucky was an inspiration to all who knew her because she saw the good in everyone.
She is survived by her husband: Frank J. Furgele; son & daughter-in-law: John & Kathie Furgele of Glen Mills, PA; son & daughter-in-law: James & Jill Furgele, Ambler, PA; daughter-in-law: Regina Goggins of Wilmington, DE; grandsons: John, Michael, Matthew and Jacob; and granddaughters: Frankie and Emily. She was predeceased by a son: Frank, Jr.; a daughter: Dawn Goggins; a son-in-law: Michael Goggins; and 2 brothers: Ernest and Fred Pliscott.
The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 15, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley, at the family's convenience.
