John D. Morris, age 79, of Woodloch Springs in Hawley died Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.
Mr. Morris was born June 14, 1929, in Queens, NY, and was predeceased by his father John B. and mother Edna (MacPherson) Morris and stepmother Kathleen I. Morris.
Mr. Morris, a US Army veteran, earned his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and two Master's degrees from NYU. A teacher for 35 years, he taught English at Islip High School on Long Island until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Morris served on the Vestry at St. Peter's By The Sea in Bay Shore, NY, as the Junior and Senior Warden, was a founder of the "springs times" newsletter at Woodloch Springs and was a member of the St. Andrew's Society of New York.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Carolyn (Hedger) Morris; three sons and their wives: James and Janet Morris of Katy, TX, Donald and Valerie Morris of Richmond, VA, and John and Angela Morris of Clifton, VA; one brother: James Morris of Slatington, PA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale at a date and time to be announced.
Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel, PA, followed by burial at Shrewsbury Church Cemetery, Kennedyville, MD.
Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale or Wayne Memorial Hospice.
