Obituary of Charles W. Crump

Charles W. Crump, age 93, of Brighten At Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel, died Sunday, December 28, 2008. Mr. Crump was born December 31, 1914, in Madisonville, PA, and was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Henry Crump. He attended Hawley High School and was on the Senior Basketball Team. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII; he was stationed in Texas, England and the European mainland. He received a Bronze Star and was promoted to Master Sergeant before his honorable discharge from service at the end of the war. He met and later married Marion Whelan in September of 1949. His first job off the family farm was delivering bread, rolls and other baked goods from Stroudsburg to the Hawley area. For a time he operated the Roosevelt Mobil Service Station located at the intersection of Route 6 and 590, and after that he worked for the Hawley Oil Company. He often worked with his brother, John, at Crump's Texaco on Main St. in Hawley. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Judy Ann and Levi F. Travis II of Promised Land, Greentown, PA; a son: C. Michael Crump of Hawley, PA; a son and daughter-in-law: Stephen and Diane Crump of Matamoras, PA; five grandchildren: Justin Crump, Theresa Layton, Levi F. Travis, US Army Capt. Brian Travis, and Charles Travis; and a great grandson: Westley Layton. He was preceded in death by his wife Marion, a sister Kathryn and a brother John. The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 3, at 11:00 AM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
