Obituary of Nancy Josephine Delligatti

Nancy J. Hiris Delligatti, 85, of Hawley, died at Belle Reve Senior Living Center, Friday, Jan. 16, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Delligatti, in 2006. Born in Kimbles, PA, to Joseph and Mary Svetitsch Hiris, she was a graduate of Hawley High School, Class of 1942. Nancy graduated and eventually instructed at the Wilfred Academy in New York City. As her career in hairstyling began, she earned several special awards and was the winner of eight trophies in styling from 1951 to 1953 for her creative designs. Nancy taught, lectured and was a platform artist at the M. Louis Salon in New York City. She was the first woman to win the World Supreme Hairstyling trophy in an international competition. Nancy also appeared on television as a hairstylist and had been involved in educational filmmaking. "Aunt Nancy" was beloved by her family and will be remembered fondly for her outgoing personality and kindness. She was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley. Surviving are two sisters: Catherine Koestner of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Dora Kump of Cleveland, OH, as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were three sisters: Anna Baumeister, Helen Mortensen and Mary Hayden, and five brothers: Joseph, Frank, William, Harry and Peter Hiris. There will be a Funeral Mass on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 23, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley. Interment will be at BVM Queen of Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, 314 Chestnut Ave., Hawley, PA 18428 or Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 315 West Harford St., Milford, PA 18337.
