On Saturday, in the rain at recycling, two people asked about the friendly gentleman.
That would be the very sorely missed Albert, who is remembered with great fondness by everyone.

Roger that brother John and Antoinette!! But I wonder how many folks do NOT check out this website as we do. There are many baby-boomers who tend to nay-say computers and the internet altogether. But the ones who do check out this site should have lit a candle for good ol'e Al. See ya later Al, and when I do, I'll buy the first round of root beers!

I could not have said it better Antoinette!!!! My thoughts exactly!! I was hoping to see a good dozen more postings from the people that I knew frequented there SO MUCH! Perhaps they just didn't get the word? In any case - my thanks to you for saying what you said SO WELL, and again - my thanks to Al - be being a GIANT in my hometown memories!!

I'm back again to honor Albert, I must say that he never forgot any of us even in the past few years , i also have to say i'm saddened by the lack of candles considering what he meant to all of us and the memories he left with us. To those of you who couldn't take a moment to say a few words on his behalf that is the sad part. The six of us that did made me very happy.... how quick people forget the kindness one person that touched so many lives can go unwritten just to say thanks. He was always from the time he made a wonderful place for us teens till the end, one of the sweetest men i will never forget and always remember with graditude. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND, you will NEVER be forgotten.

Al, you will be missed. My prayers are with your family.
You were an icon in Hawley. I can't even think about growing up there without thinking of all the time I spent in Graff's with my friends. It always brings a smile to my face. Thank you for your patience and kindness.

My thoughts and Prayers to Al's family. I can remember spending what I'm sure my parents thought was "too much time" at Graff's and meeting my friends their. Spending time playing pin-ball and enjoying a frosted mug of root beer and the pretzel rods. Al always had a kind word and always said hi to you on the street. I ran into him in early 2000 after I got out of the army and he, as always, said hi. He remembered me and we talked. I will always treasure my memories of being at Graff's and, of course, of Al.

God Bless the Graff Family,
Ditto to all the wonderful memories and the fantastic burgers, I have not had one so good since then. You did add such fun and the memories of small town living are something I cherish. I worked at The Trading Post and had lunch with you a couple times a week. God Bless you Al (and Harold).

Very sad to hear of Al's passing! He was a monument of a man to us as kids/teens!!Anytime I have a root beer, I can never make those those frosted "mug root beers" like Al could!! And everything else he served up!! So many memories at his place!!! The pinball for 5-cents - my favorite was that game "Big Casino" I probably spent a year's worth of time there!!, music on the jukebox-5 for a quarter! The booths - going back many years, then chillin' at the tables "waitin on a friend"! I was glad to visit with Al for a bit back in 2000 when I visited Hawley - and he let me take his picture over by the library! My youth years were made so much better because of Al and his great place! Thanks so much Al!!! You live on in all of us through our wonderful memories!

I will always remember Albert behind that counter, adorned in his apron, and turning out the most delicious burgers in town. You just couldn't beat a burger, fries and milk shake lunch/dinner. And he was always so friendly, and and willing to strike up a conversation. And, as already mentioned, he did put up with a lot from the kids sometimes, especially when the situation got tense back in the 'pin ball' room!! Also remember him volunteering at the recycling bins over at the old Acme parking lot. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, especially brother Harold, his 'partner-in-crime' at the luncheonette. Nothing but good old memories, hanging out at 'Graff's' and looking cool! Thanks Albert (and Harold) for those small town memories!!

I'm so sad of the passing of Albert, my memories of him from childhood are forever in my mind, we all had a place to go to hang out with friends and have his wonderful cherry cokes and cheeseburgers. We all were a handful but Albert was so nice to all of us, he was like a dad and a friend, REST IN PEACE my friend and ..THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. My prayers are with his family. He was one of a kind and will be missed and remembered fondly. He was loved and respected by many, he REALLY did care about the kids and giving us a safe place to spend time.
