Obituary of Vera J. Morgan
Please share a memory of Vera to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vera Jane Morgan, lifelong resident of Hawley, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Morgan, who died in 1993. Born Jan. 26, 1926, in Hawley, daughter of the late Hans and Myrtle > Anke, she was a graduate of Hawley High School.
In her early years, she worked for the family business in the Anke Knitting Mill, eventually > running it with her husband until it closed in 1985. She then began a second career serving the youngsters of the Wallenpaupack Area School District as a cafeteria worker.
Upon her retirement, Vera devoted her time to her many hobbies as well as her family. Although her interests included reading, crocheting, needlepoint, and gardening, she was best known for her delicious baked goods. Later in life her true joys were caring for her birds and spending time with her grandchildren. Vera had a tender heart and a servant's spirit. She never hesitated in helping someone in need expecting nothing in return. By many she will forever be lovingly referred to as "Nanny".
She is survived by a son James Morgan. She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law William Theobald with whom she resided, her son John Morgan and daughter-in-law Susan, and her son Robert Morgan and daughter-in-law Carol. She is also survived by her grandchildren James Morgan, Jason Morgan, Justin Morgan, Hillary Morgan, Zachary Morgan, Jaime Morgan, Jenna Morgan, Joshua Morgan, Dustin Morgan, Tyler Ferratti, Morgan Theobald and lastly Blake Theobald. His addition to the family last August brought her such joy in her final days, as did the lives of each and every one of her grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Monday, June 29, from 5 to 8 PM at Teeters' Funeral Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., Pastor of Hawley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley.
