Obituary of Gerd Skisland

Gerd Skisland, age 82, of Hawley died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. Born May 12, 1928, in Torpa, Norway, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Marta (Bakke) Wolden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bjorn A. Skisland, in 1989. Prior to moving to the United States in 1950, she was a secretary for a shipping company and a photography company. She lived in Brooklyn, NY, from 1950 to 1976, and was a homemaker. She was active with the Women of Life at Bethel Lutheran Church, the Bethel Crafters and, in her earlier years, the Sons of Norway. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Kenneth and Jill Skisland of Hawley, PA; a sister and two brothers: Magna Nilsen, Arvid Wolden and Bjorn Wolden, all of Norway; three grandsons: Jason, Erik and Terry John (TJ) Skisland, all of Hawley; two great granddaughters: Joy and Skylene Skisland of Hawley; and many nieces and nephews in Norway. Calling hours will be Saturday, May 15, from 10 to 11:30AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, Church Road, Rowland, PA. The funeral will be at 11:30 AM at the church with Rev. Norman R. Beighley, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley.
